The July 2008 Deep South Book of the Month is Father and Son by Larry Brown, selected by LouisBranning.
I would like to encourage everyone in the group to read or re-read the book and to discuss it here. Please also contribute a review to LibraryThing (http://www.librarything.com/work/245752/reviews/). The honor of selecting the next Book of the Month goes to the reviewer who, by general consensus, has contributed the most useful or entertaining review.

I started Father and Son last night and I'm hooked!

Alright, I just swept through the end of Lafcadio's Adventures and I'm all set to crack open Father and Son.

I think you'll really like it, D. I was totally glued to it for 2 days last week and couldn't have enjoyed it more, think it could be Brown's best book.

Stayed up late last night to finish it. Definitely an engrossing book. I'm going to digest a bit before I contribute a review.

Dystopos - It takes time the think about, doesn't it? I'm still rolling it around.

There's a great small piece about Larry on the, just arrived, Oxford American 2008 best of the South DVD. Check it out, if you get the chance.

Glad to see The Oxford American is still publishing. I'll be running out later to pick up the latest issue. Earlier this year an employee embezzled what turned out to be close to $120,00 putting the future of the magazine in jeopardy. Fortunately the University of Central Arkansas stepped in and gave a big infusion of cash to tide them over, and the magazine is being run by the University now. Hands down the OA is my favorite magazine.

Ahhh, there are other OA lovers on here!! I'm in good company. One of the few intelligent magazines left in America.

The latest issue is well worth the price, if just for the DVD. There's about a ten minute piece from "The Rough South of Larry Brown" that I've watched three times now, just to listen to Larry Brown. I had never seen an interview with him before. It's still hard to believe he's gone.

July's almost over. Everybody get your reviews up and we'll talk about who can pick August's selection.

Got my review in just under the wire.
