Hi there, I'm not sure if this is a strange question -- I'm somewhat new to Texas and have received some interesting answers to this question since arriving here.

Furthermore, what are -- in your opinion -- some defining characteristics of a "Texan"?

Any thoughts that you folks might have in relation to these questions would be extremely helpful to me.

Variety. Go a hundred or so miles in any direction and you'll find a different landscape, Texas has it all! Texans are generally big-hearted, willing to lend a hand, and proud of their heritage.

Texans are very diverse; from one county to the next, even the accents are assorted.

And the old saying 'Everything's Bigger in Texas' holds quite true...

I love the way Texans can be so accepting of individualism. It seems strange for a state that tend to be so conservative politically. When you read both the history and think of the present, Texas is chock full of people who feel perfectly comfortable doing their own thing and will spit in the eye of anyone who dares to try and stop them.
