Seeking an Icon worthy Picture

I want to see if anyone can recommend a picture of a railroad roundhouse that I can turn into a Live Journal Icon. All those I stumble across are too big and when shrunk look ... pathetic.

Any help out there?

Well, if you can provide a picture, I might be able to shrink it down for you. I make icons on LJ (you can see some examples at my waiting4morning LJ) and I have Photoshop.

I suspect that you may be running into the problem of getting a "big thing" to look OK at 100x100 pixels. I've had many "real cool icon projects" that I've had to abandon because, as you note, sometimes when they're taken down to 100x100 they look pathetic (and almost impossible to identify). Your best bet is probably doing a Google Image Search, as the thumbnails they show give a pretty close approximation of the size of an LJ icon, so if it look plausible in the thumbnail, you might have a good shot at making it look decent as an icon.

... it's B&W, so if you tweaked the contrast and white/black levels you might be able to get it to look like something at 100x100.

try sxc.hu, they have everything in stock photos. I use alot of pictures there in my iconing.
