Now, why didn't I think of this?

Have you been to Hannibal, Missouri?

I was taken there, on vacation, as a child. Fond memories of visting the house Twain/Clemens grew up in, the cave where Tom and Becky were lost, etc.

I have not been; it sounds fun though. I may add it to my itinerary next time I am out that way.

The Mark Twain House (museum) in Hartford, CT is worth a visit as well. It probably doesn’t warrant an entire trip just to visit it, but if you’re ever near Hartford it is worth a look.

Hi there. :)

Never made it to CT yet, but I was at the grave in Elmira, NY, and paid my respects.

Hannibal is worth the visit for any Twain fan, although much of it is slightly Disneyfied. The cave is there and open to the public, several of the houses attributed to the inspirations for Tom Sawyer characters are restored and on tour, and there's a decent Twain museum. Had my son read Tom Sawyer before we went, but at 11, maybe he was a little young to appreciate it.

I discovered this group only after trying to make a "Mark Twain" group. Glad it exists.
