Chuck Valverde, owner of Wahrenbrock Books, has died of cancer. He was a delightful person to know, and I will miss him. I hope the store will continue to operate, although its current location is being targeted for a high-rise cond tower.

I first knew Chuck when Wahrenbrock's was on the other side of Broadway. He was a very kind man and one of whom you could truly say he "lived life". I just saw his obituary today and I am very sad. I wish I could have joined those who paid their respects, and I'm sure there were many.

Do you have a link to that obituary?

Actually I found it when I googled his name and San Diego. I was just in Adams Avenue Books and they showed me an article in yesterday's Trib about SD bookstores in general and Wahrenbrock's and Chuck specifically. I'm going to try to find it online. Sorry, I'm a littlle lame on links.

This is from an article about his passing:

An obituary for Chuck Valverde published yesterday had the wrong date for his memorial service. It will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at the Scottish Rite Center, 1895 Camino Del Rio South in Mission Valley.

You may find the entire article here: http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20080826/news_1m26valverde.html

Shouldn't have tried the link :( You can search SignonSanDiego for "End of Story" if you wish to pursue it.
