Since most of what I read is paranormal in some way or another, I'm hoping that this wouldn't be too hard-- at least not for the vampire, werewolf, and magic categories! Some of the others I may have to broaden my horizons a bit to fill the category, but oh well. :) This sounds like it should be interesting!

Here are the categories I plan on using *Though they could change, I don't know yet*:

1 .Vampires

2. Shapeshifters (Werewolves, werecats, etc.)

3. Witches (Wizards, magic in general included here)

4. Ghosts (Probably going to be more Teen books in this category than any of the others!)

5. Time Travel

6. Aliens/Other worlds

7. Demons

8. Immortasl/Immortal Warriors *Not quite sure what all I will be including in this one, but I'll let you know after I do a bit of 'research'. Ah.. I love looking up new books!*

9. Psychic

Like I said, that list could change, but probably not. I'll post my book decisions for each category when I get the chance, either later today or tomorrow, and then I'll get started as soon as I can on reading them.

Finally finished filling all of the lists in. I went through to see which ones I own and which I do no, and I'm not sure that the challenge is going to help me shorten by TBR pile much! LOL. Out of the 81 books, I have to borrow/get from library/buy 43 of them to read. Oh well. I only added the ones that I really wanted to read anyway, so its not like it's going to be a complete waste of time, and I'm okay with going shopping for more books. :) What can I say? I'm addicted! LOL.

I'm in a similar boat to you, Book Queen! I refuse to read a book I'm not going to want to read anyways (I figure I can always tweak my categories if the going gets rough due to that!). I am also addicted to shopping for books, my family teases me by saying my book spending is helping to keep the economy floating (barely). :)

13The_Book_Queen
gen. 1, 2009, 8:18pm

LOL.

I think we have a lot in common then! I've got three different gift cards to B&N and Borders sitting in my purse, waiting to be spent. I'm thinking that later this month or so I'll go and start looking for a lot of these books *and what ever other books grab my attention along the way.. Hey, I can't say no to a book that wishes to come home with me!!*. My family knows by now that if they give me money or gift cards, I'm happy as can be, and they know that it will go to books. They use to buy books for me, but I would always buy so many myself and then I never knew what they were buying of course, and on Christmas Day, I'd end up having a lot of duplicate books! :)

There are a few I put on my list that may or may not be easy to find. If I have a hard time finding them, or paying for all of them, then I'll have to tweak my list a bit, but until then, I think I'll stick with this. I'm willing to donate a few hours of my weekend looking for these books. ;-) It'll be tough, of course, but I'll do it!

Oh, we are truly soulmates, BQ! I have a list of "Buy" books that are tagged, and whenever an event (Christmas, B-day, etc.), I direct my family to my LT library! It's not a fool-proof system, but it's starting to work for me!

16The_Book_Queen
gen. 1, 2009, 9:52pm

Sounds like it! LT seems to have the affect, being able to bring two book lover soulmates together! LOL. I think I may be getting a bit teary eyed! But it's great that we have so many things in common. :)

I might have to borrow that idea and change it a bit. I probably wouldn't give them too big of a list, simply because I would still prefer the gift cards. Because sometimes, in the middle of the year, you have this mad itch for a certain book and you don't want to wait for an event and having that money can really help to calm the itch. :) Right?

Me too. :) It had it's moments, both the good and the bad, but over all I enjoyed it a lot. It left us hanging a bit though, and I can't wait for the Awakening to come out.

20cflorente
gen. 12, 2009, 12:08pm

SUPER hanging. I wish we had a LITTLE more closure. ;)

What was Thirty Nights with a Highland Husband about? It sounds interesting....! Gotta love those highlanders. :) Yummmy...!

21The_Book_Queen
Editat: gen. 13, 2009, 7:40pm

I know! She could have gave us a bit more than just 'Hey, I've got to talk to you because, by the way, you're dead!' as our ending. *SIGH*.

Ooh yeah-- highlanders= sexy. Lickable even. Yummy is the perfect word. Though it should be elongated to 'yuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmyyyyyyy'. :)

Thirty Nights is a great book, the first book in her Daughters of the Glen series. It's a paranormal book that combines a bit of historical and contempory together by adding in time travel. Very good books, I would highly recommend them. Great romance, great characters, charming and even a bit steamy in all the right places. Plus, Highlanders. You can't go wrong with that, right? The story line is connected to faeries in Scotland and this unique line that has been born of a long ago union between the king fae and a human woman. Now the *many many times great* granddaughters have magical powers and they help them to find their true love, even if they are in different time periods (like in this one).

I may not have given it the proper praise and explanation just then, but I promise you that if you picked one of them up (they don't have to be read in order, but if you are going to read them, you might as well start from the beginning because I'm sure you'll continue on to the rest after you finish the first!) you wouldn't be wasting your time or money!

22cflorente
gen. 13, 2009, 11:27am

Hey! I'm so excited! I get to add more books to my time travel category...the series sounds wonderful.

...And maybe overlap with fae. YAY!

Thanks for the recommendation :D

Your welcome! Always happy to help out fellow readers by adding to their list of books. :) And hey, if it helps your challenge too, even better!

Aw, shucks! *That doesn't look like it's spelled right. I've never really wrote that before, though I've said the phrase and heard it a lot!* I'll try my best to keep up the recommendations for both of you *and anyone else who is interested*. But you may not appreciate the list later when you come back from the bookstore with a huge pile of books! LOL. JK.

After reading Gone and Unwind, I realized that when I was searching through tags on LT and B&N to make this list, they had mis-tagged them. Someone had said they were 'Ghosts', so I put them both under my Ghost category here... Neither one of them are related to Ghosts, but I really don't want to take the time to find replacements for the two, so I guess I'll just have to deal with it. *SIGH*. Unless I find two Ghosts related ones in my TBR by some miracle, I won't be changing it...

Enjoy,

I think even as an accident they sort of count IMHO. I've discovered a couple that I thought had a certain theme and then found I was wrong after the fact. Was Unwind as horrifying as it sounded?

33Kat32
ag. 23, 2009, 1:25pm

Unwind sounds very interesting, what did you think of it? I would love to hear your thoughts on it.

34The_Book_Queen
ag. 23, 2009, 3:11pm

Jenson--- I agree. Sometimes it's hard, without already having read a book, to correctly put it in the right category. I'm keeping them, not only because I think the count anyway, but because I don't really want to find more. ;)

For both of you: You know, Unwind, in a way, is horrifying, simple because, like with many sci-fi books, you always wonder "What if our world really comes to this some day?". It's a bit hard to imagine, and I can't believe that their society would have ever voted such a law in, but it was still a really great book, and I would recommend it to anyone, young or old! It was very interesting, and it shows just how things can go too far while trying to reach an 'agreement' between two sides.

After reading it, I'm anxious to read more of his books, even though they are not connected to Unwind as a series, simple because he writes such unique story lines.

Enjoy!
