Calvin's 500th

2009 is John Calvins 500th birthday, will that influcene hat anybody reads in 2009?

Yes. I just decided to start reading the Institutes. I have started twice previously and didn't get very far. I will probably read some of Calvin's other works and bios this year.

In my research on the Protestant (Reformed as opposed to the Lutheran) doctrine of the Lord's Supper, I came across some correspondence between Calvin, Bullinger, Bucer, and Peter Martyr Vermigli. It is in this type of correspondence that one hears the authentic voices of these great Reformers and esp. John Calvin.
Richard A. Muller has done important work on John Calvin and the Post Reformation Reformed theologians, many of whom relied heavily on John Calvin.

With the the birthday of John Calvin there is a multitude of conferences and books being produce on John Calvin. i am reading the Institutes currently and purchasing his Biography by T.H.L Parker.

I have read The Expository Genius of John Calvin. It wsa good but not as detailed as I would have liked. I still feel like I did not know that much about Calvin. Has anyone read Robert Godfrey biography on Calvin?

I read Calvin's Commentaries as a regular part my sermon prep. I live in Jacksonville, Florida where Ortega Presbyterian Church recently hosted Dr. Carl Trueman of Westminster for their fall conference. He spoke on Calvin's life and theology. I finally bought the little book Truth for All Time. At 77 pages it was a quick and enjoyable read.

I am in slownon doing it, but my desire os to still read tje books by David Hall in celebration of Calvins 500th
