LibraryThing is decent enough for TPBs and graphic novels, but how does everyone handle runs of individual issues?

març 3, 2009, 5:56am

It depends. If it is a finished series I catalog them as the series (Weird Science, full run 1-22 ). If it is an ongoing series, I catalog each item (Conan, the cimmerian #1).

By individual item.

I *really* wish there was a way to clone other people's manual entries to add to your own LT library. The amount of time it takes to manually enter things is discouraging.

I agree. It sucks that you can see what someone has and "add to library" only to have to re-input everything. I've been listing all the issues with condition if it matters and gaps. That way I can at least access the list via my iPhone from anywhere.

There was a time you could do this. I hope that they got something useful in exchange for getting rid of that feature.

Just to be mischevious -I really think the ComicBookDatabase has features that are specific to the comic fan's needs:

I'm not yet a member, but I'd join that less because I need another diversion in my life, and more because I love the idea of it so much. Check it out -for a comic collector it offers so much.

Actually you don't have to re input info.... just hit the return button after you add your complete comic or book information.. just add the new comic book number, month, or brief info and hit add again..... hit return and repeat process again and again.... It worked for my House of Mystery and swamp thing runs...... I think I added over twenty comics (with pictures of each) in less than six minutes.....

My scenario is a little different - if you look at someone else's library you can view something they've entered - LT gives you the option to add to your own library. If it's a custom entry it's not in their ISBN database so when you add it gives you a blank page. Ideally the page would already have all the details in there that someone else has added so you can make some adjustments and just hit save.

A lot of us have rather obscure if not unique books that haven't shown up on LT yet. The option to simply add a work with the details someone else has already entered would be very useful.

I also have an account at I'd love to be able to export data there to LT.

7> Well I can testify that sometimes for whatever reasons that doesn't work. I know that when people add their own books they attribute comics and related anthologies to different authors, but sometimes all the information can be the same and still the entries cannot be combined. I know for instance there are a number of books that illustrationfan and I have that exist in parallel universes where we are the sole owners...

Good point Arthurfrayn! I tend to focus more on the illustrators than the actual authors/writers... For example "Seven Wild Sisters" is by Charles DeLint, but I prefer my entry to be posted as the illustrator Charles Vess.. Of course I will enter DeLint's name as an author under contributors. The book is located in two locations on LT, as are many others... But that makes my library unique (as are others!) and we can spotlight and pay tribute to our favorite illustrators as such!

You might like to try for cataloging individual comics. I use it for that and catalog my graphic novels both here and over there...everything over there is already indexed by character and contributor with cross searching available...
