Has anyone figured out a portable option?

I saw that someone had asked this in the middle of another thread, but I thought it should have its own thread. Besides lugging around a laptop with a CueCat, is there any way to use it with any more portable devices? For example, a PIM, a smart phone, a cell phone, etc?
If your library is in another room or on another floor from your computer, it would make it so much easier than hauling books up and down stairs.

I rather think that the answer is 'No' . . . the CueCat is effectively a USB keyboard so it would plug into any device that will accept a standard USB keyboard but these seem pretty rare. Personally I lug the laptop and thank heavens that the wireless network will reach from up here in the office - on the second floor (US, first UK) - down to the basement.

You can get scanner plugins for PDAs but they come in a lot more expensive than CueCats at $100 plus.

I've been using my (declawed) PS/2 CueCat with my PDA for almost a year now.

My PDA is a Zaurus C1000 which supports USB hosting, which many PDAs do not do. (I use a PS/2 -> USB converter to connect it to the USB port). However, most PDAs do support some type of serial interface, and the PS/2 is just a serial interface. It shouldn't be too difficult to stick something together which works.

I'd expect most cell phones would not work, but most PDAs should. This company (http://www.tribeam.com/product.html ) sells a converter which will allow a standard PS/2 keyboard to connect to a Palm compatible
PDA.

I do the same, Greyhead. My library is in the room next to my pc, so I bring in my laptop & work with it. My network is wonderful, too!

My library is in our farm office building without phones, and dial-up is the only viable 'net access in this location. I found the easiest solution is to take my notebook to the office and scan into a text file. The cut'n'pasted clawed Cat scans work with LT.

To add to my previous message, Azalea's CatNip utility is now allowing me to grab ISBNs. This will eliminate the cutting and pasting and works very well.

How about an Asus eee PC as a portable cataloguing option? Bought one of these tiny critters yesterday, and am happy to report the CueCat is plug & play on the version of Linux with which the PC comes.

Anyone tried a cordless barcode reader?
