I think this story is adorable but I can't find any retellings of it! I know there are some, if you have any good recommendations PLEASE let me know! Thanx!

I'm pretty sure there's a short story retelling in a wolf at the door, but I'm not sure. and there's something at the back of mind saying I've got something somewehere, so i'll have a look later.
I haven't read this one, but you might be interested in it; the night dance

Try Juliet Marillier's Wildwood Dancing - it's one of my favourite retellings! It's based on the 12 Dancing Princesses.

There's a recent one called Princess of the Midnight Ball by Jessica Day George that I've heard is very good.

Robin McKinley includes a retelling in her collection of fantasy short stories, The Door in the Hedge.

There's an interesting retelling in Kelly Link's Stranger Things Happen, called "The Girl Detective". (The story also involves some reimagining of Nancy Drew.)

Not a book, but a play, Brothers of the Night: http://www.kennedy-center.org/multimedia/storytimeonline/brothers.html

Found out about this from Surlalune: http://www.surlalunefairytales.com/twelvedancing/themes.html

I love these cross-cultural retellings, I'd really like to see this.

There's a novel called the Phoenix Dance that tells this fairy tale, if memory serves!

I've heard that Princess of the Midnight Ball is good, but I've yet to read any novel-length retelling of the story. However, there are several good short stories and picture books that I seem to have been eating up recently (links are to my reviews for more info):

Patricia McKillip's short story in the anthology A Wolf at the Door:

Yet another short by Robin McKinley, in her collection The Door in the Hedge (what is this business with doors?):

And finally, a lovely picture book of The Twelve Dancing Princesses by Kinuko Y. Craft and Mariana Mayer:

There's another retelling of this coming out March this year, Entwined by Heather Dixon...

#13: I'll take a look at that retelling.

#3: Marillier seems to really like retellings. I think it's fun. :)

I have to second the suggestion for The Twelve Dancing Princesses by Marianna Mayer. The artwork is by Kinuko Y. Craft and all of the fairy tales that she has illustrated are just gorgeous. Of course, it is a picture book.

I've just run across a new one I'm enjoying - Entwined by Heather Dixon, shelved in the YA section at the library.

It isn't a book, but I recently rediscovered the TV show Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics. They have a retelling called The Worn Out Dancing Shoes. There are only 3 sisters instead of 12.

I watched this show all the time as a kid, but this was the one episode that I always remembered. For a while, I thought it was from Papa Beaver's Story Time. Through the years, I've found myself humming the song every-so-often, without remembering where it was from. Thanks to my memories of David the Gnome (of which I finally have the DVDs *dances a jig*), I found this nostalgic gem. Oh, the voice-acting in GFTC is rather hammy and the syncing is kinda sloppy, but that's what rose-tinted glasses are for! XD

Oh, speaking of TV versions, I have always loved the Faerie Tale Theatre version (here's a link to it on Amazon.

The Fairie Tale Theatre episodes were on PBS when I was little, and The Dancing Princesses was (and still is) my favorite of the set.
