Mmhmm, most of my favorite bands are Japanese.~
My number one is L'Arc~en~Ciel, with Miyavi being my second place.

I was lucky enough to go and see the return to the stage of X Japan last year at Tokyo Dome. Japanese music is pretty much all I listen to these days. Artists such as the now defunct Rentrer en Soi, MUCC, Buck-Tick, Go!Go!7188, Phantasmagoria being amongst my favourites.

There's a rather good Japanese counter-tenor, Yoshikazu Mera I like, who sings not only the usual classical counter-tenor repertoire, but also Japanese classical music and art songs.

I was first exposed to J-pop in the early 90s, and I pretty much disliked it from the start. Other than a few catchy songs (by "Yah yah yah" by Chage & Aska, and "Sideseat" by Trouble). About 10 years ago I was into Japanese metal (Nunchaku, Geronimo, etc.) but haven't listened to much since.

A good friend of mine tried to hook me onto Dir en grey and L'Arc-en-Ciel, but I haven't been convinced. I will listen to enka on TV occasionally, but mostly for the lolz. Plus, the enka-singin' foreigner can still be an eye-popper at karaoke parties in Japan. ;-)

#3: I remember that concert. I think a few people from my office went to see it, though I forget which night they went (not the collapse night, though). They loved it.

Most of my experience is from my old anime CDs, but everybody has to listen to Yoko Kanno and Maaya Sakamoto. However, they are pretty international, rather than strictly Japanese.

For the more ambient listener, try Susumu Yokota, for example 'Grinning Cat'.

While they're technically Korean they have a lot of Japanese songs I love DBSK. They're one of my favorite groups ever! I also like Perfume, Gackt, Karutetto, May'n, Boom Boom Satellites, Sawa, Kalafina, Thee Out Mods, Koda Kumi, and Utada Hikaru.

I wish Miyavi would come out with some newer things I was pretty disappointed with has last album. I really love his older stuff though and still listen to them.

Was listening to Japanese music at work just today. Mostly Sakamoto Maaya and Utada Hikaru.

Not *huge* into J-Rock, but I do like L'arc.

What variety! Yes on Tsugaru shamisen.

And, yes! on Okinawan music which exites me in a different ways!

But -- Hey, stop with individual names when the genre are not yet known! --

re. Korean, the equestrian folk style that has international appeal is that, no?

I guess that I am making request: please, stop the names and make this discussion generic!
