I have a friend, now in her 70th year, who had a book as a child in which the main character was Sally McGrundy, a kind old lady in the woods who rescued orphan children and magically housed and fed and gave them a wonderful life.

Does anyone know the name or author of that book?

Someone emailed the following to me:

Google led me to your site where there is a query for which I can provide some light

Here it is - http://www.librarything.com/topic/66614#

Please put the poster in touch with me by email

I tried registering with your site in order to reply that way, but the "name the author" part of your site's robot detector is malfunctioning, and I have no patience with buggy sites.

I am not interested in your site (if I ever was, I am not now), just interested to help the person seeking information. Put him in touch with me, if you please.

I replied:
I'm sorry, I can't give our a user's email. But you might try
contacting the user through one of his other sites, like Twitter.

He replied:
Understood. You don't speak English and your mind confuses my statement "put the poster in touch with me by email" as being "put me in touch with the poster by email" which I never wrote

Just one more reason for me to shrink in quivering fear from the website's gross incompetence.

If anyone would like to contact to this individual, let me know.

> 2 What a bizarre response. He or she could have just told your the title of the book from the outset, problem solved.

> 1 You might want to try this query with this group as well http://www.librarything.com/groups/namethatbook

#2 by timspalding> Priceless! When someone reveals themselves like a complete idiot like that, it's impossible to take offense. You can only be insulted by your superiors or equals. Thanks for that gem. Priceless.
