Hello?

This seems to be a defunct group. Are there not UU's somewhere reading something they would like to talk about? Do any of you have nice church libraries you help with or partake of? Anybody reading, breathing, pondering?

We're all off just pondering. Welcome and shake us out of our summer daydreams.

But are the others "pondering what I'm pondering"?

Currently reading: Beyond Ego: Transpersonal Dimensions in Psychology

 

Just finished The Giver by Lois Lowry. Denver's One Book is To Kill a Mockingbird, so am rereading (listening to) that now. Am currently reading Catching Fire--the sequel to Hunger Games. I am on a bit of a YA spree I guess. Finally broke down and bought an I-pod and after much struggle, I can download books from the library now. It sure makes the boring parts of my job fly by.

I'm listening to a YA: How I Live Now by Meg Roseoff

I just started it but so far it's pretty good.

I keep MEANING to read How I Live Now. For some reason I find it off-putting. Let me know if you still like it when you are done. I finished Catching Fire this morning instead of doing everything I was supposed to. The sequel to The Knife of Never Letting Go, The Ask and the Answer came in today though, so I am glad I am ready to read it.

I really did like How I Live Now. Of course, I was doing the audio version & that can make a difference sometimes.

Bought Real World by Natsuo Kirino and also Naoko by Keigo Higashino. I like international crime/mystery fiction. It gives you such a different picture of the countries. The Japanese titles are often very dark but excellent.

I've also started listening to another YA Kissing the Bee by Kathe Koja. I'm not as immediately hooked on it as How I Live Now but it's still interesting.

I think I acually need to get some work done now--My weekend's about up.

Our group has gone dormant again. Since I know UUs are not dormant people and are busy out making the world a better place, here's a post to nudge us a bit.

I used to enjoy a great UU church library in West Hartford Ct, overseen by the irrepressible Teddy Newlands: my other reading buddy there was wild and wondrous Willi Barbour. Living in Mexico, I'm right now looking for any help in collecting and sending books-in-Spanish to an admirable after-school & etc. program for Hispanic families, in North Carolina...

Thanks to everyone for re-engaging. I'm trying to finish Diane Ackerman's Natural History of the Senses this weekend, and listening to Sissy Spacek's My Extraordinary Ordinary Life while walking dog, etc.

With a fifth generation Unitarian President, Barack Obama, you would think Unitarians would have his back, and the plutocratic Right Wing would not have been so successful in their well-funded efforts to neuter his progressive leadership. We failed ourselves. Maybe we will awaken in time to get some major corrections going in the 2d Term and in the next Congressional elections.

I did not know Obama is a 5th generation Unitarian. One understands why he would not publicize that fact. Of course he attended a UCC church in Chicago, which was probably of Congretational origins.

He went to Sunday school at least for a little while at a Unitarian Church and had the memorial service for his grandmother at the same church. He goes to an Episcopal church in Washington now. There is that UCC in Chicago in his history. His ancestry may be Unitarian, but it would probably not be well founded for the Unitarians to claim him now.

I have definitely been dormant... will try to be back involved on a more regular basis myself. Have been through a couple of big changes, including a big career move--DOWN the ladder, intentionally. Feels great.
