Here is another reason for our crumbling society.
The Texas Board of Education didn't like the book "Ethical Marxism: The Categorical Imperative of Liberation have in common” Bill Martin wrote, so in their haste to protect our grade school children from this book, they banned all of Mr. Martin's work including the popular children's book "Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See".
Only that those moronic bureaucrats didn't bother to look and see that not only is "Brown Bear" a beloved children's book but that it was written by fellow Texan Bill Martin Jr.

Another thing that really bothers me is that, for example, let's say they're right and didn't want our precious kids to get introduced to a book that - heaven forbids - criticizes our way of life.
So they go and ban the whole body of work from a particular author?

No books were, or were ever proposed to be, banned. The issue was whether "Bill Martin Jr.'s name would {be} included on a list with author Laura Ingalls Wilder and artist Carmen Lomas Garza as examples of individuals who would be studied for their cultural contributions."
Not including him on that list is a far cry from "banning books".

The board members sound like a bunch of know nothings who enjoy the power they wield way to much. Since Texas orders way more textbooks than any other they virtually dictate what the rest of the country buys! As to the book about Communism I would ask how can we decide what type of government is best if we do not know anything about other systems. They seem to believe that ignorance is bliss! 8^)

But I concede your point and the BoE admitted it was a mistake - the bigger issue, I think, is politicizing the process and the morons making a false leap with no substance. Not to mention to the fine example they are setting to our youth about criticizing the sytem.
