This library branch used to be called Parke Memorial Library. It opened in 1945 in the former home of Amy Smith Parke, whose late husband, Dr. Thomas D. Parke, had left the house and an endowment to the city. In 1955 the house was replaced by a new building for the library. The current building opened on the same site in March 1996.

This library's hours were cut back to 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday-Saturday, "until further notice." The change took effect in late May 2015.
