Founded in 1985, the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Transgender Historical Society collects, preserves, and interprets the history of GLBT people and the communities that support them. The institution houses one of the world's largest collections of archival materials on the history and culture of GLBT people, including more than 400 manuscript collections, 450 oral histories, 80,000-plus photographs, works of fine and graphic arts, and historical artifacts, as well as special collections of books. The Historical Society welcomes researchers year-round and sponsor exhibitions and programs on an ongoing basis.
