The main level houses both "Little Free Library" type of books appropriate for adults, teens and kids for borrowing or exchange as well as BookCrossing books. The attic is a "mini-art annex" with a tiny rotating exhibition of art, visible to those standing in front of the book exchange.

For after dark: a light comes on inside when you open the door and turns off to conserve energy when you latch it closed again.

The book exchange has been built with 100% re-used lumber and roofing shingles and 85% salvaged paint. Hardware, adhesives and plexiglass are primarily new materials. The vision is to paint the exterior of the book exchange with faux stucco and dark brown trim to match the human sized house behind it.
