My least favourite of the series. I feel it could have done with some serious editing. Overlong and sadly boring in places. Not Diana Gabaldon usually excellent work. ( )
This one and Dragonfly in Amber were both really good, but probably my least favorites of the Outlander books I've read/listened to so far. I still got sucked in toward the end and read chunks of it when I wasn't commuting to and from work, but it was a bit slow in parts and way too focused on Brianna's lactating breasts!
Finally! It’s been 84 years, but I’m done. This book was long. It was very slow and it was very boring. At the same time, there were parts that were very good. Parts that had me barely able to breathe, they were so good. Unfortunately, those parts were few and far between. The moments between Jamie and Claire were great, as expected. But there was a lot of this book dedicated to Roger and Bree and I didn’t enjoy reading about them. Fortunately, there were enough major events to make a fifth season of the television series worthwhile. I actually can’t wait to see some of this book played out on screen. And I hope they leave out the boring parts.
What happened to her writing? After hours of slogging, all I had was confusing and boring detail of a few hours of the first day. Torture.

The year is 1771. Claire Randall is still an outlander, out of place and out of time. But now she is linked by love to her only anchor--Jamie Fraser. They have crossed oceans and centuries to build a life together in North Carolina. But tensions, both ancient and recent, threaten members of their clan. Knowing that his wife has the gift of prophecy, James must beleve Claire, though he would prefer not to. Claire has shared a dreadful truth--there will, without a doubt, be a war. Her knowledge of the oncoming revolution is a flickering torch that may light his way through perilous years ahead--or ignite a conflagaration that will leave their lives in ashes.
