Discover What It Really Means to Be BlessedIn the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus identified attitudes that bring God's favor: weeping over sin, demonstrating meekness, showing mercy, nurturing peace, and more. Some of these phrases have become so familiar that we've lost sight of their meaning. In this powerful study, you will gain a fresh understanding of what it looks like to align your life with God's priorities. Here you will discover anew why the word blessed mean walking the fulness and satisfaction of God, no matter your circumstances. As you look closely at the meaning behind each of the Beatitudes, you will see how these truths can shape your choices every day--and bring you closer to the heart of God. 40 Minutes a Week Could Change Your Life! The 40-Minute Bible Studies series from the teaching team at Precept Ministries International tackles the topics that matter to you. These inductive study guides, designed to be completed in just six 40-minute lessons with no homework required, help you discover for yourself what God says and how it applies to your life today. With the leader's notes and Bible passages included right in the book, each self-contained study is a powerful resource for personal growth and small-group discussion.… (més)

I received this book from Early Reviewers. It is written for a small group bible study, but I read it independently. I like the idea of a no-homework Bible Study because it is really difficult to get busy people to spend time at home studying their lessons. The scripture is right in the text making it easy to reference and make notes. I felt that the lessons were a little long even for doing individually--in a group with discussion they would really go long. The content is good, there is a lot to reflect on and put to use in daily life. ( )

I received this book through the Early Reviewer program. The six studies are designed to get a group of believers into the texts of scripture, and help them understand and apply the scriptures. The studies are essentially reading comprehension aids to various scriptures: critical questions that center around the beatitudes. The book has the groups read appropriate scriptures for each part of the beatitudes. The book takes you through observing and understanding the scriptures and then has appropriate discussion/application questions. Looks to be a good study to exposit the selected scriptures. ( )

This is a good book for a beginners Bible study. The scripture used is in the book, along with the questions, making it a great format for beginners. However, the concepts in the study are beneficial to anyone who is a Christ follower. I read it then passed it along to the gal I'm discipling so she can use it with her friend to begin their walk through the truths from God's word together. I will look into more books in this series to use with those who are just starting their journey with Jesus. ( )

A quick light devotional with lots of questions for group discussions. Draws verses in from both the Old and New Testaments. Has all the verses right in the book so you can easily mark it up as you read and interact with it. The whole books seems to be focused on the blessing of the Lord and its relation to those who are meek in spirit.
There are questions throughout for self examination.
The six studies are titled:
What does it mean to be blessed and to be poor in spirit?
What's the connection between mourning and blessing?
Why does God bless those who are gentle?
What does it look like to be righteous and merciful?
What is a pure heart and how does it relate to being a peacemaker?
How does persecution confirm your faith and bring blessing? ( )

I received this book as an Early Reviewer. I was in the hospital at the time, so it has taken me awhile to finish it. I worked on it as an individual study - did not have a group available at the time. I thought it was well suited for either individual or group study. A group would certainly add a lot with discussion etc. I thought the content was excellent, and I especially liked that the Bible verses were included in the text, it sure made it easier and less time consuming to work through. All in all, it is an excellent study and I found it very thought provoking and faith strengthening. It would take me about 40 minutes to work through each study alone, so it might be a little long for a 40 minute group setting, but that is a minor point considering the value of the concepts discussed. Very good book to add to my collection, one I am sure I will refer to agian. ( )
