When Jace vanishes with Sebastian, Clary and the Shadowhunters struggle to piece together their shattered world and Clary infiltrates the group planning the world's destruction.
{my thoughts} - This book pretty much picks up right where the previous left off. It centers around what happens to Jace and Johnathan {Sabastian} after the evil demon Lilth is destroyed by Simon. It’s starts off slowly, it is really difficult to get into this book. It took me so long to finish it because I had a severe lack of interest in reading it. I can guarantee I will not be re-reading this book in the future. I think that Miss Clare should have ended this series at three books as the first three had been mind blowing and captivating to me. These last two not so much.
I am not going to say much bad about it other then, I couldn’t get into it. It does end with it being set up for her to write a sixth book should she choose, but honestly I hope she doesn’t go in that direction. Sometimes, it’s best to leave a series ended. I hope that is the case with this series.
{reason for reading} - I read this book because I had read the previous four. I think they were well written, just not very attention grabbing. I enjoyed the first three more then the last two. I don’t know how many other people might view it that way, but that is the way it turned out being with me. ( )
Re-read in 2021: Maybe it's the mood I was in when I re-read this or maybe it's the nostalgia for this series making me less critical of it then on my first read, but whatever the reason I did enjoy this a lot more on my second read. So I'm bumping up my rating to 4 stars.
This one was better than City of Fallen Angels but I still think the first 3 books are the best in the series. Clary and Jace's relationship isn't as clingy in this book which is a good thing (though that's probably because Jace wasn't completely himself in this book). There's more action in this one than there was in City of Fallen Angels and the action is the part I love the best. Overall I'd give it a 3.5 stars.

Simon, I've been trying to call you, bit it seems like your phone is turned off. I don't know where your are right now. I don't know if Clary's already told you what happened tonight. But I have to go to Magnus's and I'd really like you to be there.
I'm never scared, but I'm scared for Jace. I'm scared for my brother. I never ask you for anything, Simon, but I'm asking you now. Please come.
Isabelle.

Now this is the Law of the Jungle, as old and as true as the sky, And the Wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the Wolf that shall break it must die. As the creeper that girdles the tree trunk, the Law runneth forward and back; For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.
