Not a great biography of Terhune. Writing seemed simplistic, not very informative if you know the subject well. ( )

After reading this book, I learned quite a lot more about Mr. Terhune and his family. Previously I had known only that he wrote stories about dogs, especially collies, and I understood that many of the stories were based on events from his life. This biography contains information about his parents, early career as a journalist in New York City, and his marriages. Terhune could be abrasive and stubborn, and that made him a controversial figure during and after his life. His great loves were his wife, Anice, and his place, Sunnybank. There are several black and white photos of Terhune, his family, friends, and animals in the book, but they have not been reproduced well. ( )
