This didn't get 4 stars because it didn't seem to have as much "wisdom" as the other Discworld books I've read. It was still fun and funny. Granny was the best character obviously and the romance angle was probably the funniest part of the whole thing. ( )
Terzo libro della serie Mondo Disco e primo del ciclo delle streghe, il romanzo racconta le avventure di Esk, una bambina destinata per tradizione a diventare un mago, perchè ottava figlia di un ottavo figlio. Purtroppo le donne non possono diventare maghi ma solo streghe, così almeno vuole la regola dell'Università Invisibile. Esk però non è dello stesso parere e aiutata da Nonnina Weatherwax (uno dei miei miti personali), proverà a superare tutti gli ostacoli e a diventare la prima donna mago della storia.
Nonostante io ami Pratchett in modo incondizionato, questo libro ha faticato ad arrivare alle tre stelline e credo che la "colpa" sia in gran parte dovuta alla traduzione. In diversi passaggi è evidente il tentativo (fallito) di rendere in italiano i giochi di parole di cui Pratchett fa largo uso; purtroppo il risultato sono frasi dal significato incomprensibile e quasi slegate dal resto del discorso. Dovrò per forza rileggerlo in lingua originale, prima o poi... ( )
