Vomit-inducing teen cliche. I was unable to finish the book. ( )

You know, I didn't mind this. I'm not into angels, but the universe is pretty interesting, and the bits that were about that universe more than Violet's inner angst or her little love triangle were good. The writing is smooth and easy to read. It's Australian, which is always a nice change amongst the gajillions of American books.

The trouble is that I am so very over love triangles and this one is particularly problematic because one of the characters in the love triangle actually rapes her and it's not dealt with properly as that at all. Which is really dodgy. He controls her emotions and her lust and it's written in such a way that half the reviews on here are going on about how hot he is. Gah. Without this element, it would've received another star. As it is, I am really hoping it's dealt with properly in the next book. Also, absent parents are such a lazy way of allowing your teens to run around unchecked.

I own the second book, so I'll read it. It'll have to improve on the Phoenix front, though, for me to read beyond that one.

I found the book to be totally amazing.

I finished it within a few days and was not ready for it to end.

Embrace was one of my favorite books in this entire series. I love the characters. This was a book that was really hard for me to put down.

Violet and Lincoln for me are just two amazing people. And just TWO of my favorite characters in this series.

If I were to have a fictional boyfriend, I would have a hard time picking between Griffin and Lincoln, but I think I would be leaning more towards Griffin because he is just someone with common sense, good heart & smart. But, his 'gift' would get me into some trouble! lol...

Lincoln, I would want to choose him because he is very much the strong silent type but you knew not to get on his bad side. He makes you want to root for him! He is also very intelligent and a good heart about him but he can also be that kind of person that is hard to understand.

This book for me was just, well, refreshing! ( )

This book was irritating and unsatisfying. The story had a good premise, but everyone was so dumb, I couldn't appreciate it. Aside from Phoenix, all the characters were very two-dimensional and so clueless that I'm not sure how they ever got anything done.

The theology in this book was also just so skewed as well that I couldn't stand it. It was unrecognizable. I don't know where Jessica Shirvington thought she got this from, but it wasn't even biblical (if it was supposed to be) ideas in it.

Very disappointed. I'm not going to continue this series. Everyone was so childish (and knew it), and hopelessly lost. No wonder, since the interesting idea was lost in the confusing mythology. ( )

So. I really wanted like this book. But man in the end I was overly disappointed in the author. #1 I don't think it is appropriate for ya. #2 it borders blasphemy and certainly disrespects anyone with an ounce of religious beliefs. I kept reading thinking it would redeem itself. I like the concept of embracing your destiny and the fight between good and evil. However, I couldn't take the disrespect. I think it is also dangerous to let someone who isn't solid in their beliefs read something like this. There was also just a lot of issues with the story building and characters In the end I quit reading and My girls wont be reading this series. ( )
