I think the message of this book is really important for young people to pick up on. Basically, that message is that science can be wrong and that our understanding of the world evolves over time.

That beings said, the illustrations and writing are a touch on the lame side. But for content it gets the big thumbs-up. ( )

I enjoyed reading this book for many reasons. One of which being the illustrations and simple language used to describe mankind's previous and current knowledge of dinosaurs in a kid-friendly manner. Kudlinski utilized many forms of figuative language in the book, most notably, similes. For example, "The size and shapes of their leg bones seem to show that some were as fast and graceful as deer." Similes like this put aspects of dinosaurs into a more simple perspective that children are able to understand. The illustrations in the book are also effective in relaying important information to children. One prime example is a side-by-side comparison of what scientists once believed dinosaurs to look like and what current information leads us to believe. This leads me to another interesting and surprising aspect of this informational book for children: the bigger message. This book emphasizes the concept that we never know everything, there is always more to learn. Shown by the comparisons of previous "facts" and current ideas, the author encourages readers to continue to explore. ( )
