Loved this whole series, the first 4 Gemmell books I've read. I felt this one was a little behind the other 3. Didn't find Gaise as likable character as the central characters of the other 3 books. Kept wanting more Kaelin Ring in the foreground instead of background. ( )
Substance: The Rigante clansmen, after long oppression by their conquerors, especially the Moidart (local ruler), have to unite with his son Gaise "Stormrider" to save the world from the demon-controlling Redeemers (a really evil group of false priests who oppress). Style: More like the usual fantasy-medieval genre than his Waylander series, possibly because of the clan (based on Scots or Irish) setting. ( )
In the fourth book of the Rigante series Stormrider and Ravenheart meets each other and their fate to defeat an ancient evil horror who wants to erase mankind and rule the world... ( )
The final book of the Rigante series pays off, with Gemmell hitting on all his usual Gemmell cylinders. Characterization remains especially strong in this series, and we see character growth here on a deeper level than might be found in a typical Drenai volume. ( )
Gemmell continues with his foray into the early years of firearm usage. I found reading about the horrors of war less enjoyable with the increased similarity between this world and ours. ( )
