Also great for kids who are into anagrams and word puzzles. ( ![]() This book is a collection of one word poems. This means that each poem is made from the letters of one word. It is interesting how some good poems can be made from one word like, chocolate = hat, coat, hot coca. There is a message or meaning from each poem, but it is not always obvious to the reader. It was not engaging for me. This book is a collection of poems which are made solely from a single word. The author writes the word again and again and then deletes letters in order to make a poem. The poems can be hard to read in this format, so on the following page, he includes a more condensed version of the poem. Each poem is illustrated with watercolor images which surround the poem. These images don’t have a lot of detail and only use red and black paint, but they go well with the sparse nature of the poems themselves Summary: This is a different type of poetry book then most. The author takes a single word and only uses the letters that are in the word to write a poem. This is a new type of poetry book that is almost like a riddle or game on each page. Personal reaction: I enjoyed this book for the most part, but I could see how it would be a little confusing. On the back of each page the author actually writes out the poem to make it easier to read. I showed the book to my children and they enjoyed it, so maybe children enjoy this book more then adults do. Classroom Extension: 1. I would have the children write their name vertically down the side of a piece of paper. Then I would have the children write something about themselves next to each letter in their name. The word they write has to include the letter from their name in the word. 2. I would write a word on the smart board. We would use this word to come up with our own poem like the author of lemonade wrote his. This is now one of my favorite poetry books so far!! I have had an appreciation for poetry and come across poems that touched me, but this is the first collection of poems that have really intrigued me and pushed me to engage and try my hand at writing some poetry. The author explains his inspiration for the single word poems and asks you to try your own. Constellation is my favorite poem. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
