This book could have been titled Anecdotes for Pastors Who are Out of Anecdotes. That being said, I enjoyed a lot of the anecdotes that Campolo tells in this slim book, although most of the time I wanted more. Most of the stories are less than a page long, and many of them have that make-you-think-again quality that is so good in a story. This book is a QUICK READ. I think it took me two and a half hours over two days to read it. Because the stories are so short, I found myself saying, “just one more!” And before I knew it, I was done. My favorite stories in this collection were “God is Not the Author of Evil,” ”Living the Life is Not Enough,” “God Listens,” and “Handicaps as Assets.”

I wish they’d picked a different cover photo (and maybe a less Chicken-Soup-for-the-Soul title). This one is too soft for the content and seems to devalue the power in some of these stories. I wouldn’t have picked it up had I not received it from the publisher. I’ve never read Campolo before, so I’m not sure if this is typical of his book design.
