This short collection of poetry is intimate and personal, connecting strongly with reality despite chronicling stories of centaurs, faeries, mermaids, and elves. FAIRY TALES‘ works, together, tell the story of a woman, a mother, a lover, a Californian. The book is both a portrait of L.A. and a biography of its bizarre and beautiful citizens. Written in the same dreamy and lyric style of Francesca Lia Block’s well-renowned novels for both teens and adults, this title is not to be missed by those poets and poetry readers looking for something refreshing and new to read on a sunny afternoon or curled up in bed with a candle lit on the night stand. I did not finish this in one sitting, which is something that usually happens with Block's books. This one did not pull me in like the previous books did. The poems felt a little... I dunno... strained? Try-hard? Amateur? Maybe just not my cuppa.
