Ted Geisel loved to doodle from the time he was a kid. He had an offbeat, fun-loving personality. He often threw dinner parties where guests wore outrageous hats! And he donned quirky hats when thinking up ideas for books like his classic The Cat in the Hat. Who was Dr. Seuss? Theodor Seuss Geisel was born March 2, 1904. His mother was Henrietta Geisel and his father were Theodor Geisel. Seuss’s name (Dr. Seuss) was created when he started writing his short stories in his school newspaper. He would sign Dr. Seuss. Most people didn’t know that it was him, so they gave this mysterious Dr. Seuss lots of laughs. In 1927 Seuss got married to his first wife Helen Palmer he later divorced her in 1967. In 1943 Seuss joined the army to fight in the war. Seuss wasn't an athlete to the army put him in a cartoon position. He would make political cartoons and his cartoons would be in the newspaper. Seuss did this for a while but soon realized that that's not exactly where he wants his career to go so, he “dropped out” and fulfilled his dreams. After his divorce Seuss decided that he wanted to remarry so he married Audrey Geisel and stayed married with her until death. Seuss died on September 24, 1991.
I love Dr. Seuss so learning he joined the military blew my mind. I had always imagined him as a scrawny man and not the athletic type until I read that he didn’t fight he just wrote cartoons. I think that if he lived to 2018 like his second wife did, he would be proud at the amount of kids that read his books. If any other author tried to copy his work and make up words and rhymes. They would surely fail. ( )

Great book to help students just starting out with the genre of biographies. Small chapters that provide a timeline of Dr. Seuss' life from child to an adult. There were simple black and white line illustrations that help tell the story of Dr. Seuss. Was easy to navigate and includes a table of contents, a visual timeline, and a bibliography. ( )

Dr. Seuss's real name was Theodor Seuss Geisel. He loved drawing, ever since he was a kid. Because of that, his teachers didn't really like him growing up. Whenever Dr. Seuss was asked to draw something (serious), he would turn into something funny and imaginative. There was this one time, that his teacher asked him to draw a pot of flowers, but instead he drew fancy schmancy flowers with mouths, eyes, and arms. It was also dancing. When he got older he invested in a book company where he became an illustrator. However, the company fired him because he did something illegal. But he changed his name and came back. After that he went to college and met the love of his life. Awwww! She told him that she thought he drew really well and that they were all cool and nice. She was the only person who ever thought that he was talented. Dr. Seuss never really owned that much money (I know right? Shocker), but it was only because no one wanted to accept him. So he built a bridge, got over it, and started creating his own books. The kids loved all his books because of the color, the story, and the characters, but of course none of the teachers liked them. So they hid them away from the children (so cruel dude). No worries though, he's a genius and started creating movies. He even won two oscars and proved everyone wrong. Yay! He still wrote books after the movie success too, including the famous : "Oh the places you'll go!".
This book was fun and I've always wanted to know about him. Eve since I picked up "Green Eggs and Ham". That's my all time favorite (besides the butter one, I forgot what that one was called). Anyways, Dr. Seuss is awesome and so was this book. So, five stars! ( )

This book is an autobiography of the famous Dr.Seuss. The book gives a timeline of significant events in Dr. Seuss' life. All of the events show that he had to gradually build up to the success that he eventually have. Being that Dr.Seuss has a lot of children's books, this will allow the students to get night of Dr.Seuss personally. ( )
