Children should read this book because it is a realistic story . ( ![]() When Junie B. wins the Cake Walk at a carnival, she chooses the one wrapped in sparkly aluminum foil. How was she supposed to know it was a lethal weapon? 00006918 00006917 An excellent example of a guided reading material fit for a child of the elementary level 2-5 engaged in chapter books, this book focuses on the story of a young girl--Junie B. Jones, who attends her school’s festival in hopes of winning prizes and gains a fruit cake from the cake-walk activity. Although disappointed at first, Junie B. Jones learns that the fruit cake may be more of a prize than she initially perceived it to be. As a read aloud and a follow-along, this book is a good use of a guided reading because of its practice for a child to learn better reading fluency and accuracy. Not to mention, the book is able to demonstrate the lesson that things may be more than what they appear to be, which can be easily identified through this fun read.
