Great story of an Arabian race horse. I must have been 12 or so when I read it. ( ![]() I will give five stars to any Marguerite Henry as long as I shall live. Best horse book right after The Black Stallion. This is a true story about the beginning of the Thoroughbred breed. Wonderful glimpses into history of both the middle east and Great Britain. You can even really go see Sham's grave at Gog Magog "in a passageway leading to his stable." The boys loved this book. As a child, and as an adult too actually, I loved horse stories. Marguerite Henry writes an easy but enjoyable horse story. Her stories feel very true to the time and setting and are enjoyable to read. This book focuses on the story of the Godolphin Arabian, Sham, and his lifelong companion, a mute boy named Agba. This story does have some black and white illustrations which helps the story come to life. The story starts in Morocco and then moves to France and finally ends in England. This story would be great in a Language Arts class as an independent read, or to use to teach how to make inferences. This book would be great in a middle level classroom too because Agba, is about their age. This book also is focused in many different cultures such as Moroccan, French, and English. Students could also do research on different famous racehorses bloodlines to see if they trace back to the Godolphin Arabian. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
