I was not fond of this book.

It is the story of Alex, a police detective, and her new partner, an angel - a literal, supernatural angel. He is known as Aramael to the other angels, Jake to the humans. We, the readers, knew that going in, but Alex has to figure it out over the course of the book. That part was fine. They are on the trail of a serial killer that they each want to find, for their own reasons. Again, that's good.

What bothered me were two things: the very emotional telling of the tale and the continual leading up to a revelation several times before actually coming through with that revelation. The emotions are ones of anger, some fear, and lust. It does not devolve into soft-core or any other porn, but ther is a lot of "fire in the belly" descriptions. The author tells the tale from several viewpoints, and each one seems to be acting from active, hot anger, with a little bit of fear thrown it. I don't like that head-space.

It was okay enough to finish reading the book. The ending became clear this was a setup for the next book or series of books, so not fully resolved, but I didn't care -- it was enough to know I would not be reading the rest of the series. ( )

First read April 2013. Reread this year because I'm finally getting around to reading book 2 and wanted a refresher on all that happened in book 1. And I enjoyed it just as much the second time. Ms. Poitevin has created a fabulous world, combining a police detective and murder mystery with a heavenly battle. A captivating read that keeps you turning pages. A romance that for once doesn't muddy down the plot and doesn't result in characters doing/saying stupid things. And a fascinating twist on the whole heaven & hell battle. ( )

Sins of the Angels has everything you want in a book about mortals and angels. Linda Poitevin does a fantastic job of blending Heaven and Hell with the mortal realm.

Alex is a complex character. She does everything she can to save people, but doesn’t take into account that she needs to let others help her also. Alex doesn’t let anyone tell her she’s not capable of doing something. She also proves to be a lot braver than most of her colleagues. Aramael drove me nuts! Sometimes I loved him, and others I wanted to strangle him. I do however love Seth. He’s quite the smart ass.

The action is nonstop. There’s trouble lurking around every corner with the serial killer on the loose. We know from the beginning who is behind the murders to an extent. It’s great seeing things unfold with the game of cat and mouse. Makes things interesting. I also love the multiple perspectives we get. There’s always a different way each person sees things happening.

If you are a fan of angels and urban fantasy, definitely try this series out. Sins of the Angels is one of the best angel books I’ve read. ( )

It was good! Yes you know it's good when I start a review like that. It just built up and got better and better, until I could not put it down even though I was at work. I even dreamed about it during the night. She sure knows how to build up the tension until you just can't let go.

Alex is a cop and she is tough, but she also hiding a lot. Something dark from her past that still haunts her, and knowledge that she is fragile. I liked her. When her new partner was an ass she told him so, she did not take crap from anyone. And I liked my heroines tough, but still human, and vulnerable too at times.

Aramael is on earth to catch a fallen angel and damn, I never really liked angels but after this one, yes please give me a guy with wings. Sure much of the time he is arrogant (he is an angel after all), but I can take it and when he starts to feel real emotions, let's just say he is a hottie and I hoped these two would get it on. Now did they? Oh I will not tell you that. But what makes it intense is that of course angels do not feel things like that, it is very wrong indeed.

The world was interesting. It was a pretty normal world, except for one thing, angels are real and God is a woman (even if no one knows it is the truth). Some angels hunt down fallen ones that commit crimes, but mostly it is a standoff. God also holds a grudge, those poor descendants after unions between angels and humans still suffer today. They do not get guardians and there is something else too. But even with all this, I liked the angels, and I must confess that I am very curious about the fallen ones to see what they are up too. Even if they are evil and so on.

But most of this book is the hunt for the killer, and he is always one step ahead, it was nail biting. Intense and just great. A true page-turner.

Conclusion.
A great start to a new series, and it is a book that I recommend. It worked perfectly. I can't wait for book 2 to come out because even if there is no cliffhanger, there still is a cliffie. Those just as evil ones because you just want more.

The problem with Sins of The Angels is that it's full of potential to be a great story, but it doesn't deliver. My problem is that I should stop looking for Elena and Raphael in every angel book out there.

Alex is a tough weary detective, who is ruled by her childhood fears. Her mother was a schizophrenic and killed her own husband. Alex found the body. The case she is working on now is getting to her and raises her old fears that she inherited her mother's illness.

She believes she is working on a serial killer case and she is right. Only the killer is a Fallen angel and while he is enjoying the kills he has his own agenda for going on a killing spree.

Aramael is an angel-enforcer, whose job is to hunt Fallen angels who start taking human lives and he is sent to deal with the Fallen. Aramael has to fight his own demons: the killer is his brother and his attraction to Alex is prohibited.

Therein lies a couple problems for me, peeps.

- the mythology and the world-building are barely outlined like we are supposed to know what's going on already.
- the case of insta-love between Alex and Aramael is one of my biggest pet-peeves in any book. It's sudden and dubious. I didn't feel the spark, the connection.

Otherwise, the concept is interesting and I will be reading more to see if book #2 improves its execution. ( )
