lol sigh. OK so I started this series and I really want to finish it but it's not always easy so i may just give up? sometimes you put yourself in a silly situation where you don't have to be! and that is me with this series. but maybe not anymore? ( )

There was one rule in the war between the vampires and the Lessening Society: Stay the fuck away from humans.

I haven't been back to the BDB since 2016 and since this one starts right after #9, I felt a little lost for a minute. The main couple of this is Tohr and No'One, Tohr being the vampire that had his mate die and No'One having been tortured and raped by Bloodletter and also Xhex's mom. Angel Lassiter comes in as he warns Tohr that his grief is keeping his mate and their unborn child from crossing over into the Fade and it's basically alluded to that he needs to fall in love with No'One. As on par with BDB, there was some heavier emotional toll the characters have to go through, this takes place over a year as Tohr learns and deals with is grief and falling in love with No'One.

Also on par with BDB, there is crap load of other character povs and plots going on. Xhex and John Matthew working out their marriage troubles, the Brotherhood of Bastards with leader Xcor trying to take out Wrath, Layla, Qhuinn, and Blay dynamics, and Lassiter's mission. I started to get more into this in the second half but you're going to have to like busy books with a lot of over arching threads and plots. I know a lot enjoyed Tohr's arc but I must have taken too big of a break from the series because I didn't have a strong emotional attachment and with the story focusing on so many other directions, I can't say what was supposed to be the main romance, Tohr and No'One, hit me the way it was supposed to. The ending had a last second shock to it but got resolved with a HEA.

I am interest in Xcor making a play for Wrath's throne, that sounds like it could get messy and great drama. ( )

E così siamo arrivati al povero, devastato Tohr. Nel volume a lui dedicato lo troviamo diviso tra il passato (l'amatissima ed indimenticabile Wellsie) e il presente (la delicata e dolce No'One). E, devo dire, che anche per noi lettori è così. Come dimenticare Wellsie? In poche scene ha toccato il nostro cuore, rendendoci dolorosissima la sua morte. Abbiamo sperato che potesse tornare come Jane, ma niente da fare.
Adesso scopriamo che è imprigionata in un luogo intermedio, l'In Mezzo, e che solo Tohr può liberarla. Come? Andando avanti, iniziando a vivere davvero, non limitandosi a mettere un piede davanti all'altro e sperando in una prossima gloriosa morte sul campo.
Difficile a farsi. Finché non arriva No'One a sconvolgere il lutto di Tohr nel modo più inaspettato, violento e deciso che il guerriero potesse immaginare.
E così vediamo crescere lentamente ed andare avanti il rapporto tra queste due anime ferite, tra picchi di passione e battute d'arresto. Sì perché Tohr rimarrà a lungo in bilico tra Wellsie e No'One, tra l'incapacità di accettare il presente e l'amore che scopre pian piano di provare per No'One.

Ruolo fondamentale è giocato da Lassiter, che in questo libro amerete ancora più che nei precedenti. La sua missione ricorda molto quella dell'altra serie della Ward, Fallen Angels. Dissacrante e cinico, Lassiter avrà anche lui qualche sorpresa nel corso della sua missione... e spero vivamente di reincontrarlo nuovamente... dobbiamo ancora venire a sapere dei dettagli di questa sua misteriosa compagna scomparsa... e che sembra lo faccia ancora soffrire parecchio.

Un ruolo importante lo giocano anche John Matthew e Xhex, in rotta di collisione per la prima volta. E bellissimi anche i momenti tra Tohr e John e quelli tra No'One e Xhex. Inutile dirvi che John è sempre più sexy con la sua Xhex... e che quello che alla fine fa per lei è molto, molto bello. I fan di John e Xhex ne saranno felici!

Poi abbiamo il quartetto Saxton-Blaylock-Qhuinn-Layla. Eh, eh, eh... questi quattro ci fanno penare da un bel po'.
Io adoro Saxton. Punto. Il ragazzo giusto al momento giusto, sempre. Impossibile non volergli bene quando è evidente quanto tenga a Blay e a Qhuinn.
Blaylock è diventato grande, potremmo dire. Passato attraverso l'inferno del suo amore *cough* non corrisposto per Qhuinn, è maturato abbastanza da poter intraprendere una relazione seria con l'amore della sua vita. Lover at Last sarà il libro a loro dedicato e mai titolo fu più azzeccato!
Qhuinn è il tipico personaggio che vorresti prendere a schiaffi ogni volta che si muove. Quello che prende decisioni che non puoi non condividere, ma che inevitabilmente lo portano a complicarsi la vita sempre di più. Dopo quello che hai combinato, dovrai sudare per riprenderti il tuo Blay, ragazzo...
E infine Layla. Odiata da un sacco di lettori. Io non ci riesco. Mi fa troppa tenerezza e spero che il suo "e vissero per sempre felici e contenti" arrivi presto... anche se si prospetta difficile.

Poi abbiamo la Banda dei Bastardi. Tutti tipi loschi e interessanti. Xcor ha un'evoluzione moooolto interessante in questo volume. Ho notato che i Bastardi hanno alcune analogie con alcuni Fratelli. Xcor-Vishous, Throe-Phury, Zypher-Rhage... il che mi farebbe storcere il naso se la Ward non fosse la brava scrittrice che è e non avesse già delimitato i confini...

Infine c'è un civile decisamente intrigante. Assail. Str**** cinico al punto giusto, spero di ritrovarlo presto. La Ward ci ha fatto sapere di essere molto legata a questo personaggio... quindi non possiamo che ben sperare, se pensiamo che l'altro suo personaggio preferito era Zsadist. ( )

i was skeptical. Didn't really want to read about Tohr with anyone but Welsie. But I must say... this is a wonderful book about healing and reconnecting in the midst of pain. JR Ward did it again... Amazing character and story development. Can't wait for the next one coming next month. ( )

Trust me when I say, you are going to want to beat the hell out of Tohr. Be prepared. ( )
