No hi ha cap discussió a Converses sobre aquesta obra. I have had this book in my Amazon Wishlist for what seems like years and when I was in the library I found it! so I got it obviously...and like you would with most books you happen to take home.... I decided to read it (wow!!) Anyways, Ladies and Gentlemen sit yourself down for a review of such a... 'Meh whatever' book. Firstly lets go into what Angelfall is about: 1. Angels at war with humans, the world as we know it has been left to wreck and ruin...like a zombie apocalypse! 2. Penryn is our fantastic main character who not only lacks any interesting thing to comment about, she is so ridiculously boring, if she couldn't defend herself this story would have had nothing at all to write about her, other than she is pretty much her sister and her mothers mother. oh and by the way *whispers* her mother is cucu for coco puffs =O 3. Angels kidnap Paige (her crippled younger sister) and so begins the hours of traipsing across the land to find where she is....obviously with a little help from someone from behind enemy lines. Why are the angels at war? well here is the big fat reason as to why..... they don't know. someone blatantly knows something. I was looking forward to this book as I thought the concept seemed promising, what I found myself reading was a boring book which pretty much has nothing happen in it until roughly chapter 36 which is where it actually did get rather good...actually it got nail biting and munch fest worthy (because who doesn't like a good snack when reading great chapters!?) Throughout the book conversation between characters didn't have any point and mostly ended up one sided with someone just 'remaining silent as a reply or not giving so and so the satisfaction of a response.' so yeah mostly this book is supposed to be focused on Penryn finding her sister and Raffe fixing his wings. While it sticks to the plot smoothly the majority of this book was boring and slow to read. To sum it up simply I felt like I could have written this book if I simply wrote about how a day with someone I don't really like would go...step by step until finally that person was allowed to f*** off and leave me to it. But since I live in hope, one day I might pick up the second as the last few chapters were well written and full of everything that was lacking in the rest of the book. Few things which I loved about this book: packed with action from page 1 to the very last one, amazing idea - I mean Angel Apocalypse is a great concept and plot twists - just wow! Grab it and enjoy the story of Penyryn, a teenage girl who join forces with a fallen Angel (in literal, not symbolic meaning) and try to save her sister form the hands of vicious Angels. I would never say that this is YA Fantasy - please keep in mind that we have some gruesome scenes in here, especially after one of the most important plot twists, almost at the end of this book. You will enjoy this story! Starts off strong but Penryn fizzled out for me. She's smart and strong, but there isn't much follow-through. She asks questions, gets no answers or total "I'm not telling you because reasons" and just shrugs it off. It's a weird inconsistency. Plus, I'm not sure that the portrayal of the disabled characters is a good one. The mom is paranoid-schizophrenic and her sister is in a wheelchair. Somehow, Mom is responsible for Paige being in a chair, but the dad just left his kids and Social Services is in no way involved. I'm not a fan of the "crazy people are necessarily violent" trope but if the mom had hurt her kid enough for her to no longer have use of her legs, then the dad abandoning his kids is beyond repugnant, but Penryn never thinks about it beyond "Oh, well, Mom be cray and Dad couldn't handle it anymore". There would be some emotional fallout from that. And Social Services/CPS is never even mentioned. I'm reading the rest of the series, but I'm not exactly jumping for joy about it. Angelfall is fraught with all the typical tropes that all popular YA paranormal series seem to contain these days, but it is nonetheless an enjoyable enough turn-off-your-brain kind of read. Exciting, fast-paced, and action-oriented, Angelfall tells the story of when fallen angels of the destructive Biblical variety come to Earth. The angel mythology that Susan Ee develops is original enough, and I like that she seems to know her Bible. There are some really weird developments regarding the mythology and it's downright gross in places, but that kept me intrigued enough to keep reading a book whose genre I have really grown tired of. The worldbuilding and story background is very hazy-- there was an apocalypse a couple months back, but there's no real description of what exactly happened, except that it involved angels. Because of this, there's no real sense that the angels are terrifying or dangerous, because the details surrounding them are so scant. I also question if human society can regress so much in such a short time frame after the event. It seemed more like the apocalypse was a few years rather than a few months ago. The characters also left much to be desired. Penryn and Raffe are basically stock characters that you find in most YA novels: Penryn as the action girl, brave, loyal, and dedicated to her younger sister; Raffe as the brooding and mysterious supernatural bad boy. It's a combination that is too common, and frankly, one that I'm beyond sick of. I wasn't terribly fond of either character and didn't connect with them, but was pulled in by the steady pace of the plot that I enjoyed the story nonetheless. I'm not sure at this point whether I'll go on with the series. It's purported to be at least 5 books in length, and I'm not really convinced by the characters enough to last another 4 books. "It's been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back. Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel. Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl. Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels' stronghold in San Francisco where she'll risk everything to rescue her sister and he'll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again." -- P.
