The story continues. The factions can't agree and in the middle is Tris who being the most divergent of all divergent can face things others can't.

It's a good followup book, but I'm getting the feeling things are complicated unnecessarily. Now on to the last book. ( )

Very good pacing. Story flowed much better than the movie. ( )

Ms. Roth, I have one question. What did you do?????

Tris has become a ruthless killer. Sometimes her actions made me sit up in bed and think about how horrible they were. She is cruel, insensitive, and almost un-human. I would dredge up some examples of this, but I read it 8 hours ago and have already forgotten everything. Sorry. Maybe you should write a more memorable book next time. Tris does insanley dimwitted things the majority of the time, like sacrificing herself for no reason, and as much asshe waxed poetic about her first instinct being to save herself in Divergent, going on suicide missions and wanting to die. Also, Ms. Roth, excuse my rudeness, but do you have any emotions whatsoever? because Tris doesn't, and I was thinking that came from you. Tris is about as interesting as a wet mop, and just as prone to dripping. She disregards everyone's effort to keep her safe, including Tobias'. Tobias has morphed from lovable cookie-cutter hero to power-seeking, cold, calculating crazy. He beats Marcus up to gain power over the Dauntless. Plus, he kind of acts like the controlling jackass boyfriend from the movies. And the plot... wait, there was a plot? I'm sorry, I thought that the 450 pages in the beginning were just filler!!! Ooops, my mistake!

All in all, a series trying to cash in on the success of the Hunger Games, and just like the Hunger Games, suffers from a seerious case of second-book rot, which will lead up to probably one of the worst conclusions of literary history, besides Mockingjay. ( )

Now I wish I wasn't #115 on hold for Allegiant at the library! I want to read the sequel! Now!

Insurgent was action packed, continuing the exciting story of Tris and Tobias in some futuristic messed up Chicago. The factions are warring, the factions are falling apart, who is on what side? And what is the big secret the Abnegation and Erudite know?

I kept thinking this would end on some sort of cliff-hanger. Every chapter seemed to end on a cliff-hanger. I can't believe this much could happen, it's just non-stop. How can Tris keep going with everything that keeps happening to her?

I still need answers to some pressing questions. Why on earth is Chicago this way? What happened to the lake? What year is this taking place in? Who came up with this government? Why are there so many question marks in this review? I will have to wait until the 3rd book.

Divergent has more of a back story, Insurgent is all action, all the time.

Veronica Roth, once more, does an outstanding job of keeping the readers on their toes. Throughout the book, there is a common struggle with maintaining loyalties, life and death situations, and internal conflicts that contribute to the book's main plot. This book very much tests the friendships and relationships made in Divergent. Family betrays family, lovers lie, and friendships are tested when the ultimate forgiveness is required.
“Cruelty does not make a person dishonest; the same way, bravery does not make a person kind.”
Insurgent makes way for the development of Tris and Tobias'/Fours relationship. It's not easy or beautiful. There are many obstacles and emotional baggage, with each keeping secrets from the other to try and protect them, which doesn't help matters. But it makes it real. They are forced into this tough situation. Of course, there's going to be struggling, and that's what makes it believable. ( )

I won't write a spoiler here, but Veronica Roth really has a way of wrapping up the end of the story while leaving the reader gasping at the revelation, and desperate to read more.
