In a surprising twist, this might have been my favorite book of the series. That doesn't mean I loved it but Trilogies are notorious for having terrible 2nd books/2nd movies but I actually liked this one okay. It maybe be that I had very low expectations for a "2nd book" but I thought it was okay :) ( )

The story continues. The factions can't agree and in the middle is Tris who being the most divergent of all divergent can face things others can't.

It's a good followup book, but I'm getting the feeling things are complicated unnecessarily. Now on to the last book. ( )

Very good pacing. Story flowed much better than the movie. ( )

Ms. Roth, I have one question. What did you do?????

Tris has become a ruthless killer. Sometimes her actions made me sit up in bed and think about how horrible they were. She is cruel, insensitive, and almost un-human. I would dredge up some examples of this, but I read it 8 hours ago and have already forgotten everything. Sorry. Maybe you should write a more memorable book next time. Tris does insanley dimwitted things the majority of the time, like sacrificing herself for no reason,and as much asshe waxed poetic about her first instinct being to save herself in Divergent, going on suicide missions and wanting to die. Also, Ms. Roth, excuse my rudeness, but do you have any emotions whatsoever? because Tris doesn't, and I was thinking that came from you. Tris is about as interesting as a wet mop, and just as prone to dripping. She disregards everyone's effort to keep her safe, including Tobias'. Tobias has morphed from lovable cookie-cutter hero to power-seeking, cold, calculating crazy. He beats Marcus up to gain power over the Dauntless. Plus, he kind of acts like the controlling jackass boyfriend from the movies. And the plot... wait, there was a plot? I'm sorry, I thought that the 450 pages in the beginning were just filler!!! Ooops, my mistake!


All in all, a series trying to cash in on the success of the Hunger Games, and just like the Hunger Games, suffers from a seerious case of second-book rot, which will lead up to probably one of the worst conclusions of literary history, besides Mockingjay. ( )
