"They had nothing in common until love gave them everything to lose Louisa Clark is an ordinary girl living an exceedingly ordinary life--steady boyfriend, close family--who has never been farther afield than their tiny village. She takes a badly needed job working for ex-Master of the Universe Will Traynor, who is wheelchair bound after a motorcycle accident. Will has always lived a huge life--big deals, extreme sports, worldwide travel--and now he's pretty sure he cannot live the way he is. Will is acerbic, moody, bossy--but Lou refuses to treat him with kid gloves, and soon his happiness means more to her than she expected. When she learns that Will has shocking plans of his own, she sets out to show him that life is still worth living. A Love Story for this generation, Me Before You brings to life two people who couldn't have less in common--a heartbreakingly romantic novel that asks, What do you do when making the person you love happy also means breaking your own heart?

February 2018 Books & Bagels Bookclub Title.

Initially read in 2013; reread in 2018 for a Book Discussion at my library. I'm not one to reread books, but revisiting this title was a delight and I think I might have enjoyed it more the second time around. After seeing the film, which wasn't terrible but most definitely wasn't wonderful, it was amazing to realize how many pivotal scenes and character traits were omitted from the story line. ( )

*** I am not this author's intended audience so my poor rating is mostly just to aid the Goodreads recommendations fairy. ****

This book was included in a batch of Large Print novels I had a local bookstore send to my mom. It's not the kind of book either one of us typically reads, but it's a best seller, so I had it tossed it. Then I had the bright idea of getting it from the library myself, so we could do a "buddy read."

Ugh. I generally do not read contemporary fiction, nor romance, and this is both. And I am reminded why I don't read this stuff. The heroine is just too adorable, all quirky and insecure and the hero needs Love. The plot is just too predictable, and the whole thing is burdened by the book's purpose of educating me about disability and living your Life with a capital L.

The writing is just fine and fans of this genre clearly loved the book, but I ended up skipping chapters at a time. Gosh, this would have been a slog! It's just a guess, but I suspect my mother won't be enthralled either.

I think it will be a safer bet for me try another Stuart Woods book the next time I want to bond with my mother. ( )

Me Before You was another The Fault In Our Stars for me - a fantastic, fast read that is an incredible tear jerker.

This book touches on an important issue - those who wish to die due to horrible circumstances. This isn't your typical suicide, this is a planned, medical condition suicide - and shows the steps people take to go through with this medical evident and those who want to stop them.

It is a powerful book that moved me. I cried, I laughed and then I cried again!

Jojo Meyes knows how to pull at your heart strings - she makes you fall in love with incredibly well written characters and then rips your heart to shreds. Now that's a talent.

Were there issues with this book? Perhaps. I didn't see any potential problems other than the ending (I always love a romantic happy ending) but that isn't a problem that effects the book. It simply affected me emotionally.

Overall, it's an incredible book! Five out of five stars, I would give it more if I could. There's a sequel, but I don't know how I feel about that without one of the main characters that I fell in love with. But, I have no doubt Jojo will do a spectacular job! She has convinced me to pick up all her other books with her fantastic writing in this one. ( )

It’s a curious phenomenon that in this digital age — in which thoughts that once emerged quietly and gradually on paper have been overtaken by instantaneous visual and audio impressions that are swiftly taken in without really being absorbed — the rapt viewer sometimes needs to be jarred, slowed down and forced to look inward. In “Me Before You,” circumstances lead noncontemplative people to contemplation...Moyes’s heroine, if Lou can be so styled, may not be heroic; her male counterpart may be nobody’s idea of a leading man — and yet with Lou and Will she has created an affair to remember.
