In 1803, Arkansas became U.S. territory, requiring residents to file claims with the government in order to prove legal ownership of the land. This index contains abstracts of land transactions for the General Land Office over an 87-year span, and consists of information such as purchaser's name, legal description and location of the land, the amount of land in acres, the county, and date of purchase. The preface lists sources for the original records. Names are listed alphabetically. Covers the counties of Arkansas, Desha, Chicot, Jefferson, and Phillips.
