This book is about a girl named Marisol, she has many outward appearances that lots of people find interesting because it doesn't make "sense". This story tells the importance of just accepting yourself for who you are and that if you try to please everyone, it will not make you happy or make things "better". I like this book and would use it in the class to show the importance of self acceptance and to treat others with respect and kindness no matter who they are. ( )

This sweet children's book opens up on a young girl who feels like she does not match. She is Peruvian, Scottish and American. She notices her bright hair looks different with her darker skin. She rather be playing by herself rather than with others. At school she faces some teasing for the way she looks. Her teacher reminds her that she is perfectly mismatched. She is who she is meant to be.
This is a sweet book that would be great to read to younger elementary students. It is a great reminder to kids that they may look different but they should be proud and know they are created with beauty.

Primary. Marisol is Peruvian, Scottish and American. She has red hair and dark skin, she speaks Spanish, English, and sometimes both! Everyone tells her that she doesn't seem to fit in, but she likes herself just the way she is! Nice to have in the classroom.

Primary; Realistic Fiction; This is a sweet story of a young girl that does not match. Her red hair does not match her orange skin, her clothes don't match, she would rather pretend to be a pirate playing soccer than either one alone, and writes her name with cursive and print. Her brother and peers give her a hard time for being mismatched, so she decides to match one day but does not have any fun. Her teacher then explains that she is perfect mismatched and she just be exactly who she wants to be. Each page is written in Spanish and English and would be great for a read aloud book, or individual reading for students who may be like outcasts. ( )

I related to this book so much because as a young child my mom would constantly tell me to change because of how mismatched I was. Although she didn’t like it, it always brought a smile to her a face. It’s a fun book to read to students!
