The One and Only Ivan is a quick read that is heart-wrenching, humorous, and hopeful. It helps the reader see life from the perspective of an animal that is kept in captivity. Ivan is a lovable gorilla who enjoys making art, caring for his friends, and wishes he could remember more from his past. Wonderfully written and my students loved it as well.

I couldn't put this down and read the book in one night. It's easy to read and I love how the main character, Ivan, is also the narrator, which makes for a great reading perspective. (
