I was a bit squicked out by the fact that Jon had sex with Donald (father) and then soon after with Ethan (son). That sort of made me think "EWW" that lasted throughout much of the story. I really felt for Ethan and wanted him happy. His "relationship" with his father made me sad for him. Although, he made poor choices for himself, he was a great character. I was glad he got is happy ending. On the other hand, Jon I didn't care for too much. I think he made just as many poor choices, may be not as dangerous as Ethan's, but still not very admirable. He wasn't someone I connected with at all. I liked Ethan, but didn't like Jon very much. The story was okay... it didn't really work for me. Might be my expectations were too high. Sometimes it results in my being unfairly disappointed in a book. K.Z. Snow's one of my favorite authors, so I guess I tend to start her books with higher expectations than with books by unknown-to-me authors. I liked Ethan, but didn't like Jon very much. It was just an amateur porn video, like thousands of others on the Internet. Like hundreds Jonathan Wright had seen and hundreds more he'd ignored. He hadn't intended to watch it, but he gives in to his curiosity. When he sees the lithe, blond young man who's doing naughty things with a bearish, older man, he's seduced... and feels like a pervert afterward. The youth in the video seems a little too young, despite the fact he runs his own escort service. Worse yet, Jon gets the nagging feeling he's seen "Justin Time," aka precious_boy, before. When Jon takes a chance and meets Justin in a Chicago hotel room, Jon's past, present, and possibly his future begin to converge in alarming and confusing ways. There's no escaping the resulting dilemma: Jon must decide just how involved he wants to get with a sweet kid whose life has turned sour... a decision made more complex by a surprising connection to a lover from Jon's past. I was drawn to this book initially by the cover, the title and the rent-boy theme and even though it was written by K.Z. Snow (and I should have known better) I put off reading it for a long time fearing that it would not live up to my expectations. I was wrong. It's a book about integrity and believing and taking a risk on love. And that little gem Ms. Snow smuggled into the last few pages brought the burn of tears to my eyes and a lump to my throat. ( )
