This review definitely contains spoilers. Definitely contains rants as well.

So this book is a continuation of the last Savannah book, picking up right where it left off, with Savannah losing her powers. This may have been an interesting plot, but in this novel, it is a completely unneeded one. The story goes that she loses her powers so that she can learn to better assists and harness her power. The conclusion of this arc being that she banishes her grandfather (high-level demon) from a body. Which apparently requires a large amount of power, hence the harnessing and whatnot. But I think most people would agree that this is something that Savannah could have done prior to learning more about her powers. Which kinda makes the whole arc unnecessary, and leading the story to be even more complicated than it should be. Not to mention that whenever Savannah actually needed her powers, they were there.

Another thing that bothered me about this book is that Savannah could have done so much more when in difficult situations, but it was like the author forgot that it was possible. Have a friend dying from being caught-up in chaos visions, and she does nothing, doesn't even attempt a calming spell which probably would have worked in the situation. Stuck in a compound with no way to inform others about what is going on? Don't you have that communication spell to speak to others' minds? Might want to give that a try, even if the spell fails. Find a friend nearly dead? That healing spell might come in handy, if not to save him, at least to help. One might argue that Savannah was lacking the spellpower to accomplish these spells, but at least try. Don't go along as if part of the world you built-up doesn't exist.

My other issue isn't that much of a big one. But the author wrote quite a few times about how demons give no care for their children, much less their grandchildren. Yet this book had that in spades. Pretty sure no character in this book with a demon link had a parent (or grandparent) that didn't care.

So when you put all that aside, it wasn't necessarily a bad story. It just has a lot of flaws that made me annoyed while reading it.

I'm giving this book four stars because it ended the series just the way I like. Though this was Savannah's book, everyone made an appearance, so it's as if I got to say goodbye to all the characters I've followed for so long. It's also one of those endings that isn't so much an ending as a pause, because even though I won't be reading about them, their lives and adventures will go on.

It made me happy, and that's all I really ask for a series ender. ( )

I have such mixed feelings about coming to the end of this series; I started reading it in 2008, and now here I am, reading the end of it 12 years later. It’s a little sad, but I was so excited to see how this would wrap up for these characters I have spent so much time with.

This book is action-packed. There is so much going on throughout the whole thing that you hardly have time to catch your breath before a new crisis has begun. I loved it. I’m so glad that we’ve had so many books in which to get to know the characters, because it made this book so exciting and I was already completely attached to the characters and rooting for them to succeed. Thirteen takes everyone we’ve met in the series and brings them together in the greatest way in order to defeat these people who are threatening the stability and existence of the Otherworld. There are tons of twists and turns and still more developments with characters’ relationships. Everyone gets their own time to shine, and I sped through this book, because I just couldn’t bring myself to stop turning the pages.

There’s plenty of closure, but it’s not a wrapped-up-perfectly type of closure, just a sense of resolution and some rest for the characters (for now) until they tackle their next big crisis, which is what I like. I can easily imagine the characters moving on with their lives and taking on their next challenges. The bonus short story featuring Elena was a perfect way to end the book, since that’s who we started with.

Women of the Otherworld is easily one of my favorite all-time series. If you’re going to read just one paranormal series in your lifetime, I would choose this one. Armstrong has an incredible ability to write edge-of-your-seat thrillers while making you fall in love with an entire cast of characters, following each of their stories in detail without overwhelming the narrative with too much clutter. I’m so happy these books exist.

Sad that this is the last in the series. She did say that she has a few more short stories in the future in this world, but its the last. We got to have short first person from all the ladies. Savannah got to see her mom and dad again. She also gets her magic back, the guy and her brothers. ( )

This final entry into Ms. Armstrong’s Women of the Otherworld series brings together all the characters that readers have grown to enjoy and love over the years. Savannah and her entourage are still embroiled in the war between the “supernaturals”, some wanting to expose their existence to humans and the rest thinking it’s a bad idea.

I have enjoyed all of the Women of Otherworld books, and this book was a very nice wrap up. Some hanging issues were nicely resolved and some were touched upon but left a little open ended. Ms. Armstrong has said on her website that she may revisit the characters in a stand alone book in the future, so there is a little wiggle room for a story. The (bonus) Elena story at the end of the book was fitting, as the series started with Elena’s story.
