Just like its prequel, this was a hell of a good read. While not quite as much a revelation to me as the first in this series, this still rates an excellent bit of science fiction. It covers much of the same ground: search for a missing girl, ruthless interplanetary politics, the lurking menace of the alien protomolecule. The space-opera action mostly moves along briskly, old characters and new develop nicely, and the bad guys aren't such cartoon villains this time around. The sweary old politician lady is hilariously great. Don't try to read this one without reading the first though; you'll just end up bewildered. Bonus point for having one of the best "Wait, whaaaaaaaaat?" endings of any book, ever. I totally didn't see that one coming. That was fantastic. The story just picks you up and drags you where it wants you to go. No time to catch your breath. TW/CW: Body horror, violence, sexual situations, language RATING: 5/5 REVIEW: Caliban’s War is the second book of the Expanse series, picking up where Leviathan Wakes leaves off. This book introduces interesting new characters and really starts delving into the politics of the world that Leviathan Wakes created. It’s an exciting book, but it’s also very political – this is something I personally enjoy very much when it’s done well, and in this book it is. The writing is gripping and interesting, and even when the politics gets to its most complicated it’s not something that’s going to hurt the reader’s head or even slow down the book. The Expanse series is definitely some of the best sci-fi I’ve read, and this is another excellent entry in that series. I recommend for fans of hard science fiction, and for anyone who’s looking for an excellent and enthralling series. A little campier than the first, but not in a bad way. I enjoyed the cinematic feel of this one, and loved the new characters. Avasarala and Prax in particular. I haven’t enjoyed reading a series in a LONG time. I don’t often have the patience. But this one is really good. I was going to take a break, but I might need to read more now so I can find out what happens next! Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
