Renowned presidential impersonator John Morgan illustrates how the same principles that helped him mimic President George W. My Life as a Bush…and my heart for imitating Jesus by John Morgan was a most inspirational and entertaining book. I have to admit that I had never heard of John Morgan. I like the way the book was organized with each chapter relating a professional experience of John’s as he impersonated President George W. Bush. Each chapter also included John’s testimony of his life as an imitator of Jesus as he follows Jesus in his daily walk as a Christian. John told how the principles that he uses to impersonate the President are Biblical commandments that can help Christians become authentic imitators of Jesus As much as John Morgan enjoys and has fun impersonating the President, in his personal and private life, he works hard to be more like Jesus. Each chapter begins with a Bible verse and ends with questions for reflection that are good for personal study or to use in a small study group. The most important point of the book is that of living a life that makes us more and more like Jesus but not impersonating Jesus.

I thought it was quite interesting and funny how John got started as an impersonator. He was awakened quite a while after midnight from a sound sleep and told by his wife, “I’ve found your new career—impersonating the president.” After he did some research and learned how profitable it was to be an impersonator, he decided that it was worth a try. John spent months studying the President to be able to imitate facial expressions, mannerisms, hand gestures, walk, hair style, speech patterns, and any other facet of the President’s life that made the impersonation more real.

I would recommend this book to everyone, Christians and non Christians alike.

"Imitation happens automatically, but it also happens by choice."

John Morgan was called to become an impersonator of George W. Bush and a very successful one as well. His wit, charm and most of all his passion for Jesus Christ, His Lord and Saviour is obvious throughout My life as a Bush and my heart for imitating Jesus."

It is interesting to read about the life of John Morgan, how he became the impersonator of Georg W. Bush and the different incidents along the way of his career. One of the things that stood out for me, is, that although he spent hours and hours perfecting his talent of impersonating someone, he did not lose his own identity, but gained more and more of it through his relationship with Jesus Christ.

"Over the years, I’ve learned that Jesus only asks me to do what is the very best thing for me to do. Everything else is a lie—and every day is a quest to remember this."

Each chapter begins with a relevant Bible verse and ends with Questions of reflection, which allows the reader to look at our own lives and the impact Christ has on us. I love the way he combines, the relaying of incidents when he was impersonating George W. Bush, with relevant and appropriate Biblical principles. The message is clear, we should not pretend to impersonate Jesus Christ, but to become daily more and more like Jesus Christ.

"People often look at me and my outrageous life and say, “Gee, I wish I looked like somebody famous.” I have great news for you. If you are a believer in Christ, you do! You have been recreated in the image of God’s Son and have His indwelling presence living through you.

To me, this is the message that John Morgan is portraying in My life as a Bush and my heart for imitating Jesus - There is nobody more famous than Jesus Christ, our Saviour. We should all imitate Him.
I recommend My life as a Bush and my heart for imitating Jesus. The spiritual parallels are refreshing and stir the reader to be imitators of the Jesus Christ.

Creation House has provided me with the book, for free, through The Book Club Network as part of their review bloggers program in exchange for this honest review. ( )
