Another picture book for older siblings. In this one, the new baby interrupts the harmony of Penny's everyday life... until everything goes back to normal (but better). ( )

This book is well written and age appropriate. It is a relatable book that children will be able to enjoy simply because they might find some of themselves in the main character Penny. Kevin Henkes uses diction to convey the child like voice of Penny. In this book, Henkes also teaches manners and obedience but also creativity and music. Henkes is also known for his illustrations and characters of friendly, relatable mice. ( )

Penny comes home from school with a song to sing, but the babies are sleeping...and then it's dinnertime...finally, after dinner, Penny sings her song and everyone joins in. ( )

Penny and Her Song is a story about a mouse who helps her baby siblings go to sleep by singing them her song. This is the very first easy book that has chapters, and I found that very cool. Even though it is just two chapters in the book, it is good t expose younger children to chapter books.
As a writing model, children can see that stories can be broken up into chapters, and they can see an example as to how authors decide when to stop and start a new chapter. ( )

Penny has a song to share with her family, but she must find the right time to share. She learns her song can bring everyone together for a great family fun night.
