Colleen Hoover is a must read author for me. Her books are nearly always perfection and even those I have not enjoyed were still wonderful books they were just not right for me. Her stories and characters are painfully real and I always become invested in the outcome. She is truly an author everyone should read at least once. ( )

I am probably one of the only people anyone knows who's never read Colleen Hoover's books, i always get the ;O face when I said i've never reads hers. i am also probably one of the only people who met her before i read her, and she is HILARIOUS. I went too bookbash 2014 and it was awesomness, so I asked everyone what to read first.

I kind of devoured this book in a couple hours. Very likable characters, quickly paced and overall just an enjoyable books. This book pretty much is a great example of why I like "young adult" fiction so much. It didn't try too hard to be something it wasn't, the characters were likable, the pacing was quick and it kept me engaged. I've already started the sequel and I'm just mad my lunch break is over and I can't read anymore today. ( )

'Does he treat you with respect at all times? That's the first question. The second question is, if he is the exact same person twenty years from now that he is today, would you still want to marry him? And finally, does he inspire you to want to be a better person? You find someone you can answer yes about to all three, then you've got yourself a good man.'

Plot

After the untimely death of her Father, Layken Cohen's family take an unwanted move across the country. Layken doesn't want to move away from her home, but when she meets Will, her new Neighbour, she starts to come around to the idea.

After just a few days, Layken and Will are drawn to each other, but a shocking discovery brings their romance to an abrupt end. Devastated and confused, Layken must find a way to live without Will, while other devastating events are unfolding right on her doorstep.

My thoughts

Well, she's done it again. Colleen Hoover has written another book that has consumed me from the very beginning. I don't know how she does it, but her books always deprive me of sleep. The first night I decided to read a 'chapter' of this book, I ended up reading four chapters, and going to bed at 1:30am. There was just no way I could put it down once I'd met Layken and Will.

The story starts with Layken about to leave her home. This is an emotional time for her, walking through the empty rooms that she once shared with her father. I got a good insight into Layken at this point; I saw that losing her dad was devastating, but she really had to pull herself together to stop her mother and brother from falling apart. Layken takes on the responsibility of helping take care of her younger brother, while her mother looks for work.

Moving to Michigan from Texas was hard for Layken. She hated the idea of leaving behind the home she shared with her father, and the town where she grew up. She's all set to hate Michigan; but then she meets Will, and things start to look up.

I really felt sorry for Layken when certain events prevented her and Will from being together. The only thing that was making her happy is suddenly snatched away from her, and now she's faced with living in close proximity to Will, knowing that they can't be together.

Layken's ability to keep herself together for her family is amazing, especially when she's hit with yet another bombshell. Having Will across the street is difficult for her, but at the same time having him there is invaluable.

I had a bit of a love/hate thing going on with Will. When we first meet him he's charming and sweeps Layken off her feet. But when they realise they can't be together, Will makes things even more difficult for Layken at times, and I found myself wanting to tell her to give up on him.

I loved this book. I finished it within a few days and always found myself craving it when I had to put it down. I snuck in reading a few chapters here and there whenever I could. I'm going to have to buy the next one soon, and see what the future has in store for Layken and Will.

The Author

This book is the first in the 'Slammed' series, with 'Point of Retreat' being next. My copy of the book has the first few chapters from 'Point of Retreat' at the end, which has really left me wanting more, so I'll be buying this one very soon. Colleen Hoover has become one of my favourite Author's, and I'm determined to read every book she writes.
