I liked it on my first reading but I found I liked it even better the second time that I read it. The storyline is appealing because it deals with a common theme that everyone can relate to—that being the desire of the young to explore the world and the tendency of the mother to want to protect their her offspring from potential harm. The story follows a young giraffe and whose curiosity leads him to explore the savannah while his mother looks on concerned that he is going to get hurt. He comes close to getting in trouble but never quite does and the mother feels relieved when he finally returns to her safely. The book ends with him enjoying the safety of his mother but still curious about what lays beyond in the wide world.
