There’s a disease of some sort infecting vampire covens. Once infected, covens are switching loyalties over to a different head vampire in exchange for a cure. Hmmm… sounds fishy. When one of Leo’s cities is infected, he sends Jane to investigate. And of course, everywhere Jane goes, people keep trying to kill her. This one was kind of murky for a while with lots of Jane on her own with random people trying to assassinate her every few pages, and then dying plague victims. Still, a super-cool story line we hadn’t seen before.

Things definitely got INTERESTING in this one with regards to Leo, Bruiser, and OMG WTF was going on with Leo forcibly making Jane into his second? No longer Team Leo here, even if it is his vampiric nature. Grrr…. And having a hard time being Team Bruiser either. Feeling a little like Jane and Beast should just flip the bird at men altogether. I liked the new players we met in this one. And the way things unfolded with the plague plot was COOL and complex. That’s one thing I super-love about Faith Hunter, the tricky world building that twists and never disappoints.

This was another of my favorite series delivering a fantasitic new book! I loved Jane in this - I sometimes felt like she needed to grow up a little in the previous novels, and she seemed to be doing just that in this one.

This was an exciting read with plenty of new developements to keep the series fresh and interesting. Lots a places for the story line to go.

Oh and I love Bruiser, not so much Ricky. I hope Beast takes the lead in Jane's love life. ( )

Jane yet again has to hunt and outsmart evil vamps and try to reconcile her past and her ongoing involvement with vamps

This book is action from the get-go. I appreciated some of the new characters, was surprised by some turn of events, liked learning more about her past/calling, and (I'll admit) seeing some vengeance done. Jane is still a great bad-ass, and that's a big part of why I keep reading. ( )
