I loved coming back to Pia and Dragos, even though the first part of the story they are separated, they still manage to stay connected Wyr style.

Pia is headed to the Elven demesne to work on restoring diplomatic relations and end the trade embargo. She's traveling with a new group of Wyr which are the equivalent of Special Forces, which she calls the 'psycho.' None of them are particularly happy to be 'babysitting' Pia and she needs to give them a little attitude adjustment. Pia is seven months pregnant and is not going to put up with there shenanigans. I love how Pia takes care of their attitude problem and eventually wins them over just by being herself.

While Pia is headed south to the Elven demesne, Dragos is managing the Sentinel Games to determine who will be his seven sentinels in the coming years. Even his current five sentinels are competing to keep their places. Loved getting to meet the new sentinels.

While Dragos and Pia are missing other, at night they can be together in their dreams. I was surprised Dragos could allow a pregnant Pia out of his sight, Dragos has come a long way from the 'Dragon Bound.' I loved all the interactions Pia had with 'Peanut,' it felt very intimate and special getting to see those moments.

Of course upon arrival things don't go as planned and Pia ends up going into the Woods where she's endangered. Dragos keeps his promise to always come for her and risk breaking relations with the Elves forever.

I loved this story, I loved that this was really all about them and while the danger and action added spice to the story it didn't take away from their story. Lots of interesting new characters as well as renewed interested in old characters, can't wait to read more in this series.

Lord's Fall

Provides a quick update to Dragos and Pia’s romance as they learn to cope with being a mated pair (with very little angst, thankfully) and reintroduces several older characters as well as some newer ones who will probably be getting their own books in the future. The animosity between Aryal and Quentin is particularly intriguing and there is obviously some backstory to be had here.

The plot revolving around Pia’s diplomatic mission to the Elves has a definite Lord of the Rings vibe and the action scenes are exciting. Nevertheless, other elements, such as the prophecy, the Deus Machinae and the Sentinel Games, are all under-developed and the details provided have a slap-dash feel to them.

Overall, Lord’s Fall leaves a novella-like impression but does serve its purpose as a solid linking book. ( )

Dragos and Pia are my favourite Elder Races Series couple. It was totally worth reading Lord's Fall to revisit them and see the change in both of them since they became mated, as they attempted to find a balance in their relationship, i.e. the softer side to Dragos and a steelier side to Pia. ( )
