I had high hopes for this but it turns out to be only a so-so horror book. A vampire story with a cannibal twist. Unfortunately the basic story is revealed on the cover blurb and the "surprise" ending is telegraphed in the first two pages. The cover art was outstanding but the interior artwork overall I thought was just average. Futaki went for a period feel that left the colors, even the blood, mostly muted with more browns and sepias. The detail wasn't particularly interesting and I found myself eventually just running through the story without really looking at anything. It just wasn't visually interesting. I thought a lot of frames were just way too dark. I even had trouble seeing what was going on in some. A more leisurely second read still didn't grab me. This one was just a "fair" for me. It started strong and, while it never really ran out of gas, it did seem to lose its way a bit. Not sure if it was the art, which was mostly good, but at times, one character would look completely different from page to page, while at other times, the two young characters looked exactly the same, aside from hair colour. The art didn't seem to have the necessary hard edges the story required at times. And the story, again, while mostly good, relied far too much on out-of-the-way spooky houses (with one very odd side trip [the "Jethro" section] that should never have made it to final edits), and an ending that relied far too much on coincidence to really land. So, not a horrible story, but not a great one. Snyder's done much better. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
